Helping people with Parkinson's live better lives.
The Fight Back Against Parkinson’s Foundation Presents, the 1st Annual “Rockin’ and Rollin’ Cycle Tour”
This was our first ever bike ride for Parkinson’s awareness. Inspired by JoAnn Roza and her 12 year fight against Parkinson’s disease, the ride spanned over 800 miles from Rhode Island to Michigan.
After over a decade of facing Parkinson’s head-on, JoAnn takes solace in two things: exercise and rock-and-roll. She’s found exercise to be a key in slowing and managing the progression of her illness. And music has been central in providing lift and inspiration on those days when her body doesn’t want to cooperate.
“This disease is like a thief,” says JoAnn. “Piece by piece, it takes away little things you always took for granted. Things like pride, self-respect, and self-reliance are easy targets for the thief. And I’ve just come to a place in my life where I’m not going to give into that without a fight.”
Talking with her neurologist about the inevitability of decline, JoAnn was advised to create a bucket list of things she wants to do while she is still able. At the top of that list? A pilgrimage to see the Kid Rock Music Lab Exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum in the motor city. With the help of her trainers at the Parkinson’s Place and the Fight Back Against Parkinson’s Foundation, JoAnn was able to check this item off the list on June 15th, 2018.
